Summary of the report of searches(excavations) Gallia No 37 1979 part 1.  Classified as "Historic Monument" on 17/08/1883 the monument is on A86 in the North of Sarras but depends on the municipality of Andance. Used as pierrie by the local farmers, infested  with brambles.
Other study :  It is either a funeral site, but a remembrance of battle. This monument would be in honor of Quintus Fabius Maximus who in 121 before J.C. Overcome king Bituit who had manages  to gather(combine) Allobroges, Helviens, Arvernes, Gabales, Ruthènes, Vellaunes. About 200000 men(people) were gathers(combines) towards Albon against the Roman but were  annihilated by 30000 men(people) more disciplined near Sarras and Andance.
The most important part is east of the side of the Rhône. A poll in summer made between the monument and the railroad, but not to step allowed to discover the Roman way. She(it) in  certainly be to destroy during the realization of this way. The building does not possess any more its outside cover which was to be stone of size. The tracks of joints are still visible. The  dimensions(size) are 11.60 m and 7.90 m. both highly-rated youngs contain openings, which are only funds(collections) of niches which were drilled. The door is on the West, slightly moved  away from the center. The foundations extend beyond 0.64 cms on average and confirm the presence of blocks establishing(constituting) the outside facades.              We ignore completely the name of the rich family possessing this monument. No registration(inscription) A found. The name of the place also helps us not at all.
Who says Roman ways, says borders: Milestones romaine lettuce(steelyard) were arranged every 1481 meters and contained 1000 steps... Yet we notice that a Roman step had to make 1.48 m what is eberrant! In fact one  counted in double step.  Abréviation : M.P. : Millia Passuum
One in been able to see works along him(her,it) A 86 concerning of the sewers.  Dug(accentuated) about 2 m of depth, I thought that the trench would reveal some  archaeological objects. But nothing to report, in any case in this place!
Some times(weathers) later one in been able to see heaps of earth(ground) of  différantes origins near the mausolé. The éxamen of its "waste" donnat some small  discoveries. Regrettably we do not know the site which has sudden the assault of an  excavator.
First of all it is pieces of tiles (Tégulae) that were on  a heap of ground. Certain romaine lettuces(steelyards),  others later.
Here we can see what seems to me to be a  gourd(clot). On the other hand the diameter would be  more than 10 cms.. We shall notice the decoration(set).
Piece of vase(mud) with an attached very oxidized  object. I do not know about it more because would be  needed more elaborate annalyses and an expert.
Pieces of Merovingian pottery according to Inrap of  Valencia(Valence) where I consulted. We would thus have  several archaeological coats(layers) (stratigraphy). The  decoration with points is typical.
Martin Jérôme  mantaille@hotmail.fr  Le 23/08/2010                 I was able to notice the presence in one engraved(burnt), resulting I presume works of burying of a  waterworks, in the said place " Sarasinière " between Sarras and Andance. We find fragments of tiles(blows) (tegulae )  undoubtedly romaine lettuce(steelyard). I was also able to collect(harvest) two fragments of amphoras, and a fragment of  ceramic.  I would know how to say more on these elements, certainly not possessing enough a fragmen  If it interests you, they are at your disposal. I do not know on the other hand this it causes a problem to collect this  kind(genre) of fragments in elevations.  These objects will be the object of an exhibition(exposure) for Heritage Days to Coinaud ( St Rambert d' Albon)  I ask you to rig the expression of my respectful feelings.
These objects are particularly intêressants. Indeed,  him(it) are in priori Merovingians, that is of the VIIth  century more or less. One in thus an archeological site  which spreads out from the IIIth century to VIIth century.  Very rare rooms(parts, plays). Here were thus one of  damage caused by the not statement(declaration) of  archaeological objects by persons working on construction  sites(works).
Left northwest of the monument 1: base of foundation. 2: northwest nests. 3: piece northwest of the western wall. 4: face interns of the northern wall. Top view(sight). We shall notice  the full apse about 5 m of diameter.
Why "Sarrazinière" ?             Oops!!! I have already given the game away by specifying that the monument was Romain, but then why to call him "Sarrasinière"? Simply because in the Middle Ages "buckwheat"  indicated(appointed) a heretic, and because this appointment(naming) concerned ruins of pre-Roman buildings, Romain or Gallo-Francs. We find many of these appointments(naming) on all  the French territory. It is not thus a key point built by the Moors contrary to Jean Lacam's assertion in 1965. This construction is on the municipality of Andance, plot of land no 300.

Confrontation with a text of the XIXth century:  I find certain works as we know almost all, that is the intituteur, or the priest of the village who wants to write the history(story) of the place or he(it) is. This work are often vague,  with erreures, being lacking precision, but they are all the same utilie. Who knows if in the bend of a paragraph we shall not find an intêressant element? For Andance, I bought a  republication of a work of Abbot Caillet, printed in 1867. We speak for example about Sarrasinière there that we describe as being a monument to the glory of the consul Q. Fabius  Maximus, what is an erreure. We shall speak about other one places, as the châtelet for example, but also what we called " the castle pipet ". I me susi was returned in this place, but of l  other highly-rated of the river, and I was able to found by the obvious tracks of the Roman. Within 20 minutes, I found pieces of tiles(blows), certain flat and thick carractéristiques, but  also three shards of pottery, asseblant two together.
Field or we find Roman shards.
Easy to see, diverse pieces, among others tiles(blows). But also a little pottery. Both black shards assemble. Are thus of the same porterie
